Packaged Food & Instant Noodles

The food aisle: instant noodles and Korean ramen made in Vietnam, chilli and fish sauce, seasoning and bouillon, rice paper and dried rice noodles, condensed milk and canned fish.

How the shelves fit together

This is the aisle a Vietnamese kitchen abroad orders from, and it is the one with the least substitutable goods on it. Instant noodles and sauce are the two deep shelves. Beside them sit the lines that are Vietnamese rather than merely made in Vietnam: rice paper, fish sauce, and the condensed milk that Vietnamese coffee needs. A restaurant supplier and a retail wholesaler buy different sizes off the same shelves.

Dense, long lived and easy to plan

Almost everything here is ambient and stable for a year or more, so the sailing time comes out of the conversation and stock can be held. It is also dense: sauce in glass, canned fish and condensed milk are heavy for their volume and reach a container's payload early, while noodles are the opposite and fill the cube. A load built across both halves of this aisle balances itself without borrowing from another.
